Why should I apply to schools using Embark.com?
Embark is the premier provider of online applications, and it’s been building schools’ applications since 1999. Our online applications serve some of the finest institutions in the country. Now you can harness the power of Embark by saving your application data to a profile that can be used over and over again, for each Embark application you begin. In addition to our online applications, we offer PDF versions of many school applications.
How do I get started?
Search for a school using the Find a School box on the homepage. To find only those schools that have an application on Embark.com, use the Advanced School Finder to find schools that fit your criteria and also have online or autofill applications on Embark.com.
You can also use the “Undergraduate Applications” or “Graduate Applications” shortcut buttons on the homepage.
Once you find a school you want to apply to, you click the “apply online” button or “autofill application” button in the search results or on the school’s profile page.
Can I still apply from a school’s website instead?
Yes. If you have an Embark.com account, we will save the data you enter in an application, even if you open that application from the school’s website instead of Embark.com. Also, we will save the school’s application to your My Applications page.

What happens when I click the “apply online” button?
The selected school’s application will open within Embark.com. If you are not already logged into Embark.com, you will be asked to login to access the application. If you have previously accessed any Embark applications through a school’s website, you already have an Embark account – use this account to login so you can keep all your application information saved in one place.
What happens when I open a new online application?
Embark.com users who have previously opened an application will have information from their Embark profile pre-populated in the new application. Be sure to review the pre-filled information carefully before submitting your applications.
When you start an application, it will appear in the Applications in Progress section of the My Applications Page.
What happens when I save a page of an Embark online application?
Every time you save a page of an application, move to the next or previous page of an application, or click any button to leave an application, the data you entered on that page will be saved to your Profile.
What happens when I return to an application I have already begun?
When you return to an application you have previously started, you will see an Autocomplete button at the top of the page. If you have any new data that can be imported to your application since you last updated it, clicking this button will bring that information into the application.
What happens when I submit an Embark online application?
When you submit an Embark online application, that application is moved to the Submitted Applications section of My Applications. You can always access the application from this list.

What is an Embark.com autofill application?
An Embark.com autofill application is an interactive copy of the printable application a school provides on its own website. It is in PDF format, a type of file you can open with Acrobat Reader 8. Also, if you have data saved in your Profile at the time you download the autofill application from Embark.com, that information will appear in the appropriate fields of the PDF. You can edit or delete that information, and add any missing information. Be sure to save the application to your hard drive. Once you download an autofill application from the site, it is not saved in your account, though it will be noted that you downloaded it in the Autofill Applications section of My Applications.
Why would I download an autofill application for a school from Embark.com instead of going to that school’s website?
There are three advantages to downloading an autofill application from Embark.com:
- One-stop shopping. You can easily download the autofill applications from a list of schools that meet your criteria, instead of going to each school’s website individually.
- If you have data saved in your Profile, the autofill application will open with that data pre-filled.
- You can edit your application information before printing out the application.
What should I do when I download an Embark.com autofill application?
The first thing you should do is save the application to your hard drive. Once you download and start the application, it is no longer part of Embark.com, though it will be noted in the Autofill Applications section of My Applications that you downloaded it.
Save the application to your hard drive frequently while you are working to be sure you do not lose any of your work.
Do I need special software to view and update an Embark.com autofill application?
You need Acrobat Reader 8 to view and update an Embark.com autofill application. When you request an autofill application, a link will display to allow you to easily download the software for free if you don’t already have it.
Can I submit an Embark autofill application to a school via the internet?
No. You will need to print out your completed PDF application and mail it in. Read the school’s instructions carefully to find out what other materials and actions are required to apply to the school.

What is my Profile?
Your Profile is where your application information is saved. Your Profile is automatically completed for you whenever you save an Embark online application. After that, all future applications you open (whether from Embark.com or from a school’s website), will display pre-filled with data from this profile.
Always use the same username and password, so that all your applications are associated with one account and one profile.
Do I have to complete my Profile to apply online?
No, data is automatically saved to your Profile whenever you save an Embark online application. However, you may update it manually if you wish.
How does my Profile get updated automatically?
If you are an Embark.com member, your data is saved to your Profile whenever you save a page of an application, navigate between pages, or click any button in the application to take an action.
My Profile contains out-of-date information. How can I update it?
Click on the link to your "edit profile" in the header of every page. You must sign in to access this area.
My Applications

What information can I find on the My Applications page?
My Applications is where you’ll find the status of your started applications and your submitted applications, and it shows which Embark.com autofill applications you have downloaded.
For started applications, you can see the date you started the application and the date you last modified it. You may also remove applications from the My Applications page.
If I remove an application from the My Applications page, how can I access it again?
You can re-open an online application at any time by searching for the school on Embark.com and clicking the “apply online” button, or by going directly to the school’s website and started the online application there. Once you open the application, it will automatically appear in your Applications in Progress list again.
What if I have more than one application in progress for a school?
Each application will be listed on a separate line on the My Applications page, listed in order of start date for applications in progress, or by submitted date for submitted applications.

How do I add schools to the My Schools list?
You can save schools to the My Schools list by clicking the “Add to My Schools” button on the search results page, or by clicking the “Add to My Schools” button on any school’s profile page.

How do I use the Advanced School Finder?
The Advanced School Finder can be used to find schools that fit certain criteria you set: public vs. private, setting, location, enrollment, student-faculty ratio, average GPA, and test scores. You can also narrow your search to include only those schools that you can apply to online from Embark.com, or schools for which Embark.com offers an autofill application.
