Sarita James is Embark’s Chief Executive Officer, responsible for management of the company with a focus on growth. Prior to Embark, Sarita held executive roles at Citigroup, including Chief Operating Officer of Citi Ventures. She has experience building software at Microsoft Corporation where she received two patents and advising technology companies as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company.
Sarita has a passion for education and the public sector. Under the Obama administration, she served as a White House Fellow and Acting Branch Chief of the Small Business Administration’s Microloan program. During Mayor Bloomberg’s second term, she ran the Strategy and Policy division for New York City Economic Development Corporation.
Sarita received a B.A. in Computer Science from Harvard College and her M.B.A. from Oxford University’s Said Business School.
Chief Technology Officer
Sean is Embark's Chief Technology Officer, responsible for the overall direction and quality of Embark's products. His primary focus includes design and architecture, development, and deployment of our applications. Sean works closely with our Client Associate team to develop technical solutions to our clients' most complex requirements.
Prior to joining Embark, Sean held a variety of management positions at Hess Corporation and was a software engineering consultant for Fino Consulting. Sean has over fifteen years of experience in application design, development and implementation. His expertise includes enterprise architecture design, specifically in the energy and educational technology sectors. Sean has led numerous technical teams and has extensive experience in agile development methodologies.
He holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Vermont.
Tabitha Kaiser is Embark’s Operations Director. In this role, she leads the team that builds and configures applications to meet our clients’ needs. Her primary focus is ensuring that clients are happy and that their Embark solution saves them time and supports their preferred workflow. Tabitha shares client requests with our technology team to inform our product roadmap.
Prior to joining Embark, Tabitha worked in Admissions at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln managing the process of evaluation and enrollment. There she helped her team streamline processes to save hundreds of hours and better serve prospective students. She is passionate about bringing technology and people together. She also dedicates time to teaching the next generation of Product Managers at General Assembly, a New York-based development bootcamp.
Tabitha holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
FEATURED STAFF ACROSS DEPARTMENTS
Tymko Tecca joined Embark as a Technical Analyst in June, 2015. He is part of our team of first responders for all technical questions from our users. He also works closely with our technology team on product design. Before joining Embark, Tymko worked as a software developer on recruiting software and mobile app design for New York-based startups.
Outside of work, Tymko develops indie video games with bad graphics, learns foreign languages, recklessly rides a bicycle, and moonlights as a PA for TV and film shoots.
Tymko received a B.A. in Political Science, with a minor in Game Design from NYU. He studied Mandarin briefly at Fudan University in Shanghai.
Technical Implementation Associate
Devyn Gardner joined Embark as a Technical Implementation Associate in 2016. In this role, she communicates with Embark’s clients and helps to build out their online admissions solutions.
Prior to Embark, Devyn worked at Minnesota Life College, a not-for profit vocational program for young adults with ASD or other learning differences. As a Development Associate, she updated their donor database, and conducted best practices research for the organization’s development team. Additionally, she has served as a Constituent Advocate Intern for U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar. As a Constituent Advocate, Devyn acted as a liaison between constituents and government agencies in resolving matters involving Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and Immigration.
Originally from Minnesota, Devyn loves spending time outdoors, preferably on a golf course or by a lake.
Devyn received a B.A. in Economics from Amherst College.
Justin Barabander is a software engineer based out of Embark’s New York offices.
Justin is part of Embark's software engineering team and is responsible for creating and enhancing our products. Prior to joining Embark, Justin attended Fullstack Academy where he developed web applications using MongoDB, Express, Angular, and Node. Prior to that, he was a Business Analyst for Perioperative services at a major New Jersey hospital.
When not coding, Justin can usually be seen rooting for his beloved New York Rangers or stepping into a good book. Justin is also passionate about volunteer work and currently runs a club for kids in grades 8-12 at his local 4-H branch.
Justin received his B.A in Economics and Political Science from Muhlenberg College in 2007.
Software Engineering Intern
Derick Yang joined Embark as a software engineering intern in May 2016. A rising junior at Tufts University in Massachusetts, Derick is studying Computer Science and Mathematics. Derick is responsible for building and improving upon Embark’s products.
Prior to Embark, Derick worked as a research assistant at both the University of Rhode Island and Tufts University, working in topics such as artificial intelligence and human-robot interaction. He has also worked as a software engineer at CipherHealth, a healthcare technology company based in New York. Derick has developed a number of web applications using frameworks such as MongoDB, Express, Node, and Flask.
Outside of Embark, Derick can be seen playing tennis, running, and rock climbing. He is the president of club tennis at Tufts University.
